Printing labels from netdespatch On A Mac


Below you'll find a tutorial teaching you how to set up and use the Peninsula Thermal Printer Driver to print shipping labels directly from the Net Despatch website to your thermal printer on Mac.


You will only need to complete the following instructions once.

1. Configuring Java to work in Safari with NetDespatch.

  • a)


  • Open the Net Despatch website and log in.

  • b)



  • Once logged in you will need to open safari's preferences.

  • c)



  • On the Safari preferences select the security tab.

  • d)



  • On the security tab click the Plug-In Settings button at the bottom.

  • e)



  • On the Plug-In Settings window select Java from the sidebar.

  • f)



  • On the Plug-In Settings window set the currently open netdespatch.com website to Allow Always.
    You can then click Done and close Safari's preferences.

2. Configuring your system so that java will print at the correct size.

  • a)


  • From the Apple menu choose System Preferences...

  • b)



  • Click Printers & Scanners.

  • c)



  • Set the default paper size to either A4 or US Letter.

3. Installing your thermal printer.

  • a)


  • On the Net Despatch website select Printer Configuration.

  • b)



  • If prompted by java to run an application click Run.

  • c)



  • Set the settings to the same as shown in the screenshot above selecting your printer from the popup menu.

  • d)



  • On the security tab click the Plug-In Settings button at the bottom.

  • e)



  • On the Plug-In Settings window select Java from the sidebar.

  • f)



  • On the Plug-In Settings window set the currently open netdespatch.com website to Allow Always.
    You can then click Done and close Safari's preferences.

2. Configuring NetDespatch to print to your thermal printer.

  • a)


  • On the Net Despatch website select Printer Configuration.

  • b)



  • If prompted by java to run an application click Run.

  • c)



  • Set the settings to the same as shown in the screenshot above selecting your printer from the popup menu.

  • d)



  • On the security tab click the Plug-In Settings button at the bottom.

  • e)



  • On the Plug-In Settings window select Java from the sidebar.

  • f)



  • On the Plug-In Settings window set the currently open netdespatch.com website to Allow Always.
    You can then click Done and close Safari's preferences.


2. Print a PDF sample label


  • a)
  • Navigate to the label you are wanting to print and click print
    A window will open with the label to print in.
    If the print dialog does not open press cmd+P or select Print from the File menu at the top of the screen

    Chrome Users: Select at the bottom of the chrome print dialog

    (Note: You may need to scroll down)

  • b)



  • Once the print dialog is open select your printer.

  • c)



  • Select your countries default paper size e.g. A4 or US Letter.
    (Note: This is not the size you will be printing the label at.)

  • Select the PDF Dropdown in the bottom left of the print dialog and choose "Save As PDF..."
    Save the PDF and make a note of where you have saved it to as you will need it later.


Please continue to step 3.


3. Setting up your thermal printer for printing from the UPS website


  • a)


  • Open the Thermal Utility.

  • b)



  • Follow the onscreen steps until you reach the "Choose what applications you are printing from" step and select
    "Web Browser (ie Safari, Chrome etc)".

    Click the "Next" button.

  • Select "UPS Website" from the menu.

  • d)



  • Click the "Next" button.

  • e)



  • A window will open. Drag the PDF file we downloaded earlier onto the window and set the label size to the correct size of your labels.

  • Drag the image and use the controls at the bottom to correctly position the area you wish to print (the label section) onto the label.

  • When it is positioned correctly click save to save the extraction settings.

  • h)



  • As this printer is now set up specifically for the UPS website we recommend giving it a different name and allow you to change this.

    You may install the same printer multiple times with different settings and a different name using the Thermal Utility allowing you to set the extraction up for different websites and applications and simply choose the printer on the print dialog to print with those settings. Click next when you are happy with the name.

  • Click add printer.

  • The installation will take a few seconds and then the installation complete message will show. The printer is now installed and you may close the Thermal Utility.

    The setup is now complete simply return to the UPS website and print your labels selecting the printer we just installed.

    Remember to choose "Extract from Page" as the page size when printing.
